We hosted our first house party in Selkirk College student housing in Nelson and got a good response from the crowd. Our little drawing and dining space was packed, the speakers were blasting at red levels, and a security guy was out on a round. The next morning, no complaints or point deductions. Hence, the party is a success. Below is a poor representation of what happened at the party, didn't have any good quality photo or video. (That's me, on the decks doing stupid dj moves)

I'll share a little background story of putting up this. I moved to the housing in the May 2023 and we didn't think any such house party was possible considering the quiet hours and housing rules. We remained to ourselves and didn't have such a loud show. During this summer, housing was quiet as only culinary program students stayed. But the fall semester changed everything. Many new Canadian students came to housing who knew the rules better. They threw a party on their floor, it was pretty good. This encouraged me to throw one party in my pod rooms one day.

The whole housing is full and seems to be a happening place. We all people started chilling together and shared good laughs. After a couple of days, one morning we decided to throw a similar party. I and Anzy started working on it, I asked Simon for his DJ controller, asked a speaker from one music program guy, made a poster, posted on Instagram and did a setup in our living room. We were ready! check the poster here...lol.

The next thing in any party is the crowd. Although, it was a private and free party. But a crowd is a must to dance to your music. From 8 pm to around 10 pm was a dull period, people would stop by to see and go out for a walk..haha.

Later, people started gathering and the room started to fill. Grace, Humpty, Ankit and others were on the floor dancing and chilling around. Me and simon were switching controls as per floor vibe. Talking about the vibe, it was a mix of Indians and Canadians. Music should cater for both crowds fairly, and to do that a mix of Punjabi, Bollywood and popular English tracks is a must. Music breaks language barriers. To exemplify, a popular Bollywood lyrics track can be remixed or mashed up with a house track. People would dance to it or at least tap their feet on it. Followed by a good English dance track, people would love.

It was my first experience to have such a party in the student hostel, I don't find any reason for not throwing that party again. It was so cosy with everyone. There was a moment, when people were dancing in a dark room and one girl came up with a small portable laser light. Seriously, that light tuned that dull room into a rave room. I loved the way that everyone contributed their part to make it happen. Deep from the heart, I thank you all.

If you looking for more videos, they're on my Instagram's highlight, Instagram doesn't allow highlights to embed. Stay tuned for more of such parties, my new studio speakers have arrived and a new DJ controller will be delivered this weekend. Stoked to play with new toys. I urge you guys to sign up for my newsletter so that you'll get an email when I post on the website.
